Fixed IP M2M SIMs
This looks like a normal SIM card – but it is not. Most SIMs have a dynamic IP address which means that for the purpose of secure connectivity, they vulnerable to malicious attack and can drop off the off the network.
The SIM you see here is different. With a static IP - or "fixed IP" - address it sits on a private APN network that in turn sits on GPRS and/or 3G networks. Effectively it is a node on a mobile VPN, with an end-to-end connection between SIM and servers behind the corporate firewall. This means that IT managers can remotely monitor and configure the device containing the SIM without the need for expensive third party software. It means also that the connection can be guaranteed with a service level agreement.
Unlike other providers of fixed IP SIMs, working with our technical partners, we can assign a fixed IP address to most SIMs on most European, Australasian, US and Canadian mobile networks. We can even do this if the SIM is already within a data contract.
CONSIDERATIONS
In setting up a wireless network connecting mobile devices to central servers behind their firewalls, you need to consider: -
* SLA - is one provided?
* Can you provision all your SIMs online, saving time and cost?
* Can you connect all your SIMs on different networks, on a single APN name?
* Is your billing across multiple networks, in different countries, in 1 KB increments?
* Is your network secure with 256k AES encryption or greater?
